Dr. Steven West holds a Ph.D. in Near Eastern Languages and Cultures
from UCLA and a B.A. in Government from Oberlin College.
He was a Fulbright Scholar to Turkey and a professor of the Turkish
and Ottoman languages and the cultural history of the Turks at UCLA and the University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. West received the International Distinguished Service Award
from Macalester College for his work in Cyprus on the problem of abandoned land. His father, Dan West, founded Heifer International
in 1938.
He teaches linguistics, English grammar, second language acquisition
and cross-cultural communication in the ESL Certificate Programs at the extensions of the University of California Berkeley
and Santa Cruz.
